Romantic wedding flowers at Thicket Priory

When it comes to quintessential Yorkshire wedding venues, Thicket Priory has a way of making every wedding feel timeless. Its elegant interiors, beautiful grounds and relaxed atmosphere provide the perfect backdrop for romantic, nature-led wedding flowers, and this May wedding was no exception.

The brief was simple: soft, romantic and full of beautiful seasonal flowers.

The bride had always loved peonies and wanted flowers that felt abundant, delicate and wonderfully ruffly. The groom, a keen gardener, was equally passionate about the flowers chosen for the day, and it was important to the couple that wherever possible the flowers were British-grown and celebrated the very best of the season.

Seasonal May wedding flowers

May is one of my favourite months for wedding flowers. The gardens are bursting into life and some of the most sought-after blooms of the year are at their best.

For this Thicket Priory wedding, we worked with a palette of soft whites and blush pinks, creating arrangements that felt fresh, romantic and effortlessly beautiful. The floral designs featured some of spring's most-loved flowers, including:

  • Peonies

  • Garden roses

  • Sweet peas

Together, these flowers created the soft, cloud-like textures the bride was dreaming of. The peonies brought those beautiful layers of ruffled petals, while the garden roses added depth and romance. Sweet peas threaded their way through the designs, adding movement, scent and a natural, garden-gathered feel.

British-Grown flowers for a garden-loving couple

One of the most meaningful parts of this wedding was the couple's desire to use British-grown flowers wherever possible.

As a keen gardener, the groom appreciated the seasonality of flowers and wanted the designs to reflect what was naturally flourishing in May. Choosing British-grown blooms not only supports local growers but also allows for flowers with character, movement and a freshness that is difficult to replicate.

Many of the flowers used felt as though they had been gathered straight from an English country garden, making them a perfect fit for both the couple and the venue itself.

Wedding flowers designed for Thicket Priory

Thicket Priory lends itself beautifully to romantic floral styling. Its grand yet welcoming interiors don't need excessive decoration; instead, thoughtful floral designs can enhance the character that is already there.

The soft white and pink colour palette complemented the venue perfectly, creating a look that felt elegant without being overly formal. The flowers settled naturally into the space, bringing softness and texture while allowing the architecture and surroundings to shine.

The result was everything the couple had hoped for: romantic, timeless and full of seasonal character.
